Known as Alex. Arrived in 1849. Miner, lumberman, ditch owner (Andrews Ditch and Roaring River and Middle Fork of Cottonwood Ditch), attorney, Assemblyman. Settled on what became Kentucky Ranch (sometimes called Saratoga) in 1849 on Clear Creek 3.5 miles below Horsetown. Member of the first party of prospectors to enter Cottonwood Creek Indian country in 1850 and member of the party who made the first known verbal Indian treaty. Member of the party who discovered rich gold diggings in the Arbuckle District in 1850. Developed mining claims on Andrews Creek. Married Mary Jane Dudley in 1857. Elected Assemblyman in 1870-72, again in 1872-74. Andrews Creek named for him. [1]
